Wonder Bricks vs. Roblox: an AI-native creation platform comparison
Roblox has already proven a massive player network and a real creator economy. The open question is different: how much product design is needed for beginners, kids, and families to create safely with AI before they become traditional game developers?
Sources: Roblox Economic Impact Report 2025; Bain Gamer Survey 2024.218
Roblox has solved a hard problem: it has become one of the default places where kids and adults go to play user-generated games. The company reported 127 million average DAU, 123.9 billion engagement hours, and more than $1.5 billion in Developer Exchange Fees in 2025.1
That scale is not the question Wonder Bricks should try to answer first. The better question is earlier and narrower: what would it take for a child, parent, or non-developer to move from idea to playable world without first becoming a Roblox Studio developer?314
Its reach and creator economy are real; the top 1,000 developers averaged $820,000 in 2024 earnings.2
Bain found that 79% of gamers played UGC games, while only 16% created content.18
The better test is first creation, first Kiki revision, first safe share, and Wonder Friends tutoring loops.14
Evidence
What the numbers actually say
The useful comparison is not "Roblox versus Wonder Bricks at the same scale." Roblox is already massive. The useful comparison is where each platform puts friction: Roblox concentrates power inside Studio and a mature creator economy; Wonder Bricks puts the product bet on reducing the distance between a child's intent and a playable, revisable result.1214
| Metric | Roblox | Wonder Bricks perspective |
|---|---|---|
| Scale | Average 2025 DAU of 127 million and 123.9 billion engagement hours.1 | The priority is not matching the player network first, but lowering the barrier to first creation, first play, and first revision.14 |
| Creator economy | Top 1,000 developers averaged $820,000 in 2024 earnings; more than 24,500 creators participated in DevEx; median DevEx participant earnings were $1,575.2 | The core question is lowering the barrier so anyone can create a World, Avatar, or Wonder Friend, not only serving top creators.14 |
| Beginner learning load | Official curricula put Studio, a first experience, and Luau basics up front.3 Paid beginner courses for complete games run about 6-7 hours of video, while some community self-reports put Lua and Studio basics alone around 50-100 hours.67 | Wonder Bricks is designed so the idea can run first on web and mobile, then revision requests move through Kiki and Studio flows.14 |
| AI creation environment | In 2026 Roblox expanded Studio Assistant into a plan-build-test loop and said 44% of its top 1,000 creators used Assistant or MCP-based AI tools.8 | Wonder Bricks aims for an AI-native sandbox where users create worlds, avatars, and friends from the start, not only AI assistance inside a separate creation environment.14 |
| AI quality risk | OpenGameEval uses 47 tests and notes that Roblox AI is stronger on simple manipulations than on multi-step contextual reasoning, client-server interaction, and existing world-state understanding.9 | Wonder Bricks positions generated results inside world objects, runtime contracts, safety layers, and feedback loops.14 |
| Child safety and parent controls | Roblox added remote parent account management, spending limits, friend-list visibility, average screen time over the last week, and daily screen-time limits.10 | Wonder Bricks treats safety, AI relationship boundaries, parent visibility, and anti-overdependence as core protections, not paid add-ons.14 |
| Avatar costs | Roblox Marketplace prices move with price floors, regional pricing, and seller settings, and revenue share changes above the price floor.1112 Community complaints repeatedly argue that price floors make low-cost customization harder.13 | A Wonder Bricks Avatar is closer to a generative identity object made with AI and expressed inside worlds than to a simple purchase catalog.14 |
Friction
Creation is still a development path
Public sources do not provide a clean average for how long a non-developer needs to launch a Roblox experience that real people keep using. The available evidence still points in one direction: even a beginner path runs through Studio, a first experience, Luau basics, scripting, 3D editing, UI, data, and test iteration.345
Paid beginner courses can package a complete game into roughly 6-7 hours of video, but community self-reports describe Lua and Studio basics in the 50-100 hour range, and a game aiming for 100k visits becomes an open-ended loop of design, marketing, and quality improvement.67
AI
AI inside Studio is not the same as an AI-native sandbox
Roblox is already investing heavily in AI. Its 2026 Studio Assistant roadmap adds planning, building, and testing workflows, and Roblox says 44% of its top 1,000 creators used Assistant or MCP-based AI tools.8
That is different from making AI the starting surface for a non-expert. OpenGameEval is useful here because it shows why game creation is hard for agents: multi-step context, client-server interaction, 3D hierarchy, and existing world state are still meaningful challenges.9 That makes structure the product advantage for Wonder Bricks: worlds, avatars, friends, safety layers, runtime contracts, and feedback loops, not only free-form code generation.14
Family context
For kids, the platform question is safety plus agency
Roblox's safety work is not cosmetic. In 2024 it announced remote parent account management, spending limits, friend-list visibility, recent seven-day average screen time, and daily screen-time limits.10 A 2025 BMC Psychology study makes the tension plain: Roblox can support creativity and peer interaction, while parents still worry about moderation, spending, and social communication design.15
The risk also escapes the game surface. A TikTok Kids Mode study found that 83% of observed For You videos were not child-directed, and AP reported a Roblox-related "Steal a Brainrot" TikTok video reaching 46.8 million views after a child cried over a stolen character.1617 A family creation platform has to design for play, creation, sharing, and viewing context together.
Identity
Avatars can be more than a shopping cart
Roblox Marketplace pricing is not accidental: price floors, regional pricing, seller settings, and progressive revenue share shape what avatar customization costs and who benefits when prices rise.1112 Community complaints about catalog affordability show the user-side tension: customization can start to feel like a spending problem before it feels like self-expression.13
The stronger avatar story is not a cheaper catalog. It is creation: a child describes a character, revises it, brings it into a world, and connects it with Wonder Friends as part of a creative identity rather than a purchase history.14
Takeaway
The opportunity is not a smaller Roblox
Roblox is already a scaled UGC game network with a real economy.12 Wonder Bricks' sharper opportunity is to build a different first mile: open a world on the web, create on mobile, revise through Kiki, and let Wonder Friends act as bounded creative companions for kids.14
That is a narrower claim than "Roblox replacement," and it is stronger because it is measurable. If more non-experts can safely make something, play it, improve it, and share it, Wonder Bricks is solving a creation problem that the UGC market has not yet solved for most players.18
